About Dr Tanwar

  • Dr Tanwar is certified on the GMC specialist register as a consultant in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Internal Medicine.

  • Dr Tanwar obtained his PhD at the prestigious UCL Institute for Liver & Digestive Health (part of the Division of Medicine at University College London).

  • Dr Tanwar has been awarded a fellowship of both The Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and The European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology (FEBGH). 

 
    Career:

  • Dr Tanwar qualified from Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School in 2001.

  • After becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians, Dr Tanwar completed his specialist Gastroenterology training in London and trained at numerous centres of excellence including University College Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital.

  • In the penultimate year of his specialist registrar training (2009) Dr Tanwar was selected in open national competition for the London Deanery Advanced Hepatology Fellowship.

  • In 2014 Dr Tanwar took up his consultant post at Barts Health NHS Trust as Gastroenterologist with a specialist interest in HPB medicine and interventional endoscopy.

  • Dr Tanwar has published widely in peer reviewed international journals and textbooks and have published more than 35 articles on a broad range of subjects such as diagnostic testing, HPB medicine, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, anaemia and gastrointestinal malignancy. 

  • Alongside his expertise in non-invasive testing, Dr Tanwar  also performs complex endoscopic procedures. In addition to being proficient in a wide range of complex endoscopic procedures, Dr Tanwar has the largest experience in the UK of endoscopic stenting as a non-operative intervention for symptomatic gallbladder disease (endoscopic transpapillary gallbladder stenting- ETGS).

  • Dr Tanwar lives in North East London with his wife, a consultant paediatrician and two  children.

  • Dr Tanwar's hobbies include cycling, gardening, DIY and trying to go to the gym!
